Liverpool loses 1-0 to Chelsea at Anfield as shambolic Reds have lost the Midas touch they had for over 2 seasons.

Liverpool are in dire straits as they lost their 5th home game in a row at Anfield to Chelsea. This is the worst home form for the Reds in their history as fans wonder for how long this ordeal will continue. Many are considering this to be the worst title defense in premier league history as Liverpool are facing an uphill battle to make it into the top 4.

It’s apparent that Liverpool might miss on the champion’s league spot as they lay 7th on the table with 43 points. With 11 matchdays left the Reds are languishing 4 points behind the fourth-placed Chelsea.

Mason Mount’s superb strike in the latter portion of the first half was the only goal of the match. Liverpool enjoyed more possession(55%) than Chelsea but failed to create chances. Liverpool also accumulated 100 more touches than their opponents but they were restricted in the middle of the park for most parts of the game.

The win puts Chelsea at the 4th position with 47 points in 27 games. They are a point ahead of Ancelotti’s resurgent Everton, who got a game in hand. Klopp conceded losing to a direct rival for the champion’s league spot is a big setback. He admitted that his team has to show its quality more often, which they haven’t done enough of this season.

Klopp was criticized post-game with his decision to substitute Mohamed Salah in the second half. He could have taken off Mane or Firmino, both of whom have undeniably contributed much fewer goals (7 and 6 respectively) than Salah(12). Klopp was probably resting his main man while giving an opportunity to Diego Jota who is making a comeback from injury. Nevertheless, Salah should have stayed on the pitch as he is clearly the best attacker at Liverpool this season.
