Thomas Tuchel is the front runner for the Chelsea job!
Frank Lampard is sacked by Chelsea. A poor set of results has seen Chelsea struggle to grab 4 points in their last 5 fixtures. The Blues are set to appoint Thomas Tuchel who is looking for new pastures after his PSG exit last year. The announcement received mixed reactions from the Chelsea fans. Chelsea fans would have preferred to give Lampard at least until the end of the season to prove himself.
Frank Lampard leaves behind the project of “integrating academy graduates with the first team”legacy.
Frank Lampard took the helm at Chelsea F.C. in the summer of 2019 on a three-year contract. He replaced Mauricio Saari who was sacked a week prior by the club due to Chelsea’s poor performances on the pitch.
In Lampard’s first season he had to deal with a transfer ban due to a breach in the FFP the season before. Despite the circumstances, Lampard managed to steer the ship in the right direction by achieving 4th position with 66 points. Chelsea also missed on an F.A. cup trophy when Mikel Arteta’s rejuvenated Arsenal scraped past them in the final.
Lampard during his tenure gave ample opportunities to breakthrough prospects like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Reece James. Several academy players developed well under Lamapard’s tutelage. He provided the youngsters with plenty of first-team opportunities.
Despite the positives, Lampard averaged 1.67 points per game, which is amongst the lowest by any managerial appointment in the Abramovich era. Chelsea is currently 9th in the premier league with an abysmal form and the early season’s target to challenge for a champions league spot looks out of sight.
Timo Werner and Kai Havertz look out of depth at times.
The German contingent of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have also failed to replicate their form from the Bundesliga. Some critics consider their underperformance as a catalyst that has led to Lampard’s sacking. Their atrocious performances raise doubt on Lampard’s ability to get the best out of the new signings. The Blues spent more than 200 million this summer to cover up for the transfer ban in the previous season. Lampard on the other hand often had to rely on his academy graduates which he brought up a season earlier. This created a situation where the club was either gonna get rid of the players or the manager and in the end, it was an obvious choice.
Ruthless blueprint of Chelsea’s success.
There will be a mixed bag of emotions from the fans as Lampard, a “fan favorite” due to his trophy-laden playing career at the club where he managed to make 429 appearances in the league and netting 147 goals failed to replicate his success as a manager.
He is the 10th managerial sacking since Abramovich took over the club in 2004. Chelsea’s high expectations and ruthlessness’ while sacking managers has been a successful blueprint for the club. In the last 18 years, the Blues have won 15 trophies which consisted of 5 premier leagues and a champions league.
